| A wireless (RF) version of
the Horstmann Controls ThermoPlus programmable room thermostat
has been added to the innovative range, with installers now
able to select from 4 different easy-fit models, depending on
the application and user environment.
Since its initial introduction, the ThermoPlus thermostat
range has proved highly popular with domestic users and installers
alike. Although featuring a radically different design with
the simplest user adjustment controls of any thermostat available,
ThermoPlus is a fully functional, intelligent electronic programmable
thermostat.
The latest RF version – the ThermoPlus AS2 RF –
is battery powered and makes use of advanced Z-Wave™
mesh wireless control language. This substantially reduces
installation times and the disruptions and décor damage
associated with hard wiring. The technology is also highly
reliable and permits easy network management.
The ThermoPlus AS2 RF is supplied complete with its receiver
unit (ASR-RF) which is normally sited close to the boiler
to minimize wiring. In the unlikely event of any communications
problems, the receiver has a local override facility.
As with the other hard wired or battery models, the RF version
remains a simple unit to install, programme and operate with
each variant having 5 pre-set heating profiles from which
the installer can easily select the preferred programme. Programming
functions are accessed from behind the front flap and once
set there is no further need for user or installer adjustment,
including the twice yearly time change.
The ease-of-use features for the householder also substantially
reduce the instances of disruptive and expensive call backs
for the installer – a long standing problem with more
complicated heating control products.
ThermoPlus ‘stats are suited to both new build installations
and replacement of older style electro-mechanical thermostats
and are particularly popular in applications such as residential,
local authority housing, housing associations and social housing.
They contrast high performance and technology with ease and
simplicity of use. Features such as a colour coded, bright
LED warm/cool display, automatic BST/GMT time change, a frost
protection feature and Braille markings for selecting warm/cool
settings are all designed to enable the user to clearly understand
and adjust the temperature settings correctly.
In addition to the AS2 RF version the ThermoPlus
AS1 is the mains powered option, ThermoPlus AS2 is the standard
battery powered model and ThermoPlus PRT1 has been especially
designed for vulnerable/elderly users.
The PRT1 model is mains powered and requires an all-installer
set-up to agreed parameters. It features a 15º cool setting
to provide hypothermia protection and is the recommended programmable
room thermostat for heating systems installed under the Defra
funded national ‘Warm Front’ scheme*.

Note for Editors:
*After Horstmann Controls was invited to bid for the Warm
Front contract, the company’s design team co-operated
with various agencies and government departments – notably
DEFRA and the National Energy Action charity (NEA) - to assess
the design parameters most suited to vulnerable/elderly users.
Top of the priorities was to achieve a breakthrough in the
design of the user interface which needed to be simple, visual
and tactile. The result was the simple three button user operation;
a warm/cool colour display, Braille markings and a bright
back lit display.
ThermoPlus PRT1 is now the DEFRA and NEA recommended thermostat
for WarmFront installations.
Arthur Scott, technical manager at NEA comments.
“Many Warm Front heating installations are for the
over 60’s who often have physical or visual impairments
and therefore to ensure they get the very best out of the
heating installation, its programmer must be easy to use by
all. Certainly, the Horstmann solution more than meets that
criteria and will make life easier for many thousands of users.”
