Since its introduction, the wireless (RF) version of Horstmann
Controls’ ThermoPlus programmable room thermostat has
proved highly popular.
However, one satisfied user has found that the versatility
of the unit has enabled her to use the unit to create a mini
‘zoning’ environment in her house.
The mother of new born twins was anxious that the temperature
in the children’s bedroom at no time fell below 15º
during the night. (The 15º threshold is accepted as the
minimum to provide hypothermia protection.) With the construction
of her house featuring a steel frame and predominantly concrete
walls, the family had noticed that the temperature in the
house drops very quickly after the heating shuts off.
Having contacted Horstmann – her house’s existing
heating programmer was a Horstmann CentaurPlus C11 electronic
programmer with an industry standard 6 pin backplate –
it was recommended that conversion to a ThermoPlus RT unit
could overcome the problem.
“We simply replaced the CentaurPlus with the ThermoPlus
RF receiver which was a plug in process using the standard
backplate,” explains Tim Acton, Horstmann’s commercial
manager.
“Then, we recommended that the customer takes the ThermoPlus
unit into the twins’ bedroom at night where she can
pre-set the temperature for the room – either on the
cool setting or higher – effectively turning the bedroom
into the point of control. It has proved highly effective
and a good example of how RF technology can be used in an
innovative way.”
The latest ThermoPlus AS2 RF programmer is battery powered
and makes use of advanced Z-Wave™ mesh wireless control
language. This substantially reduces installation times and
the disruptions and décor damage associated with hard
wiring. The technology is also highly reliable and permits
easy network management.
The AS2 RF is supplied complete with its receiver unit (ASR-RF)
which is normally sited close to the boiler to minimize wiring.
In the unlikely event of any communications problems, the
receiver has a local override facility.
Simple to install, programme and operate with 5 pre-set heating
profiles from which the installer can easily select the preferred
programme, the ThermoPlus
programming functions are accessed from behind the front flap.
Key features contrast high performance and technology with
ease and simplicity of use. Features such as a colour coded,
bright LED warm/cool display, automatic BST/GMT time change,
the frost protection feature and large buttons for selecting
warm/cool settings are all designed to enable the user to
clearly understand and adjust the temperature settings correctly.
